[DAP]fnord reporting for duty

#1 Post by fnord » Fri Mar 19, 2004 8:48 pm

Name: [DAP]fnord
Age: 32
Location: Southbury, CT

How I Found Out About Lang:
I've been playing exclusively on Needlefeast for at least 6 months now. There are other servers, but why bother?

Likes:
Killing, maiming, destroying, players who understand sarcasm, monkeys.

Dislikes:
Whiners, simpletons, terrorists, people who insist on using up all the landmines in like 3 locations. It's called "Frugality," people.

Biography:
I've been in the FPS scene since Doom was released. I've been a beta tester for iD, Raven and Microsoft, and actually wrote the README for Quake 2's CTF (when I used to hang out with Zoid and Xian and others every day on IRC). I got bored to tears with the FPS genre, and left it completely for a good 4-5 years, until ET came out, and now I can't stop playing. If I'm awake, I'm planning new strategies.

Why I Should Be a Member:
I play on Needlefeast pretty much daily. I am a versatile player, although I specialize in being a Medic or a FieldOps. My Engineer skills are pretty good too -- my land mines aren't in everyday locations, and they get lots more kills because of it. I've got some really solid PHP skills and am a good graphic designer, and can contribute to whatever's needed. If you need help with any sort of open source project, I'm your man. The [DAP] clan has fallen apart (they're currently engrossed in UT2K4, and as un-clan-like as you can get), and I need somewhere to focus my energies. I like the langstas.

Oh, and I have every episode of MST3K ever aired. That's gotta count for something.

OH, and you guys need a Clubber.Lang. I'd actually change my nick to pull it off.

Hey fnord!

I have seen you around and am glad you stopped by.

If you say DAP is un clan-like, then be prepared since Lang is just about community and friends, and projects, not so much gaming (Even though we are almost all ET junkies hehe).

Anyhow. Keep up the posting!

You pronouce it like fjord, but with an n.

It comes from a Robert Anton Wilson book. It is misdefined all over the net.

Basically, fnords are things that the government trains us to be afraid of from a very young age. We're trained not to look at them, because we are so frightened of them.

Then the government puts them *everywhere*, in newspapers, on television, on billboards, on the streets, absolutely everywhere, so that we are in a constant state of fear. An actual quote is "If you don't see the fnords, they can't eat you." It's a very weird book.

The reason for all this is that without fear, we don't need government.

It seems kinda poingant in today's world, so I adopted it about 6 years ago. I used to be known as August West, or augstwest on Slashdot.
